On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, His Excellency Mr. Supark Prongthura, Ambassador of Thailand to Jordan, handed over the special contribution of 50,000 USD to Mr. Olaf Becker, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan, on 11 July 2024 in support of UNRWA oPT Flash Appeal 2024.

Director Becker warmly welcomed and expressed UNRWA’s deep appreciation to the Royal Thai Government for the special contribution at this critical time in response to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. This contribution will literally save lives and allow UNRWA to purchase water, food, medical and other essential supplies urgently required for the affected people. He further reiterated that the Royal Thai Government has been a steadfast and reliable supporter of UNRWA, who is proud to be Thailand’s partner in serving Palestine Refugees in this time of need.

On his part, His Excellency the Ambassador of Thailand reaffirmed Thailand’s role, with a longstanding humanitarian tradition, as a responsible member of the international community. Thailand has consistently provided financial support to UNRWA since 1978. This special contribution is in addition to the 80,000 USD contribution in response to the “UNRWA Flash Appeal: 90-day initial emergency response to the escalation in the Gaza Strip” in October last year. Thailand is also committed to the multi-year pledge for voluntary contribution to UNRWA for the years 2022-2026 totaling 200,000 USD.

Thailand has also been closely monitoring the situation in the Gaza Strip with deep concern, particularly the impact on innocent civilians. Thailand’s special contribution today aims to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. Additionally, His Excellency the Ambassador of Thailand commended UNRWA for its dedicated efforts in spearheading the noble humanitarian cause in the Gaza Strip and beyond.
