On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, His Excellency Mr. Supark Prongthura, Ambassador of Thailand to Jordan, handed over the contribution of 50,000 USD to Mr. Olaf Becker, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan, on 3 July 2025 in support of UNRWA oPT Flash Appeal 2025. Director Becker warmly welcomed and expressed UNRWA’s deep appreciation to the Royal Thai Government for the contribution at this critical time and in response to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The contribution will literally save lives in Gaza. He further reiterated that the Royal Thai Government has been a steadfast and reliable supporter of UNRWA, who is proud to be Thailand’s partner in serving Palestine Refugees in this time of need.
On his part, His Excellency the Ambassador of Thailand reaffirmed Thailand’s role, with a longstanding humanitarian tradition, as a responsible member of the international community. Thailand has consistently provided financial and in kind support to UNRWA since 1978. This special contribution is in addition to the 80,000 USD contribution in response to the “UNRWA Flash Appeal: 90-day initial emergency response to the escalation in the Gaza Strip” in October 2023, as well as the subsequent 50,000 USD Contribution to the UNRWA oPT Flash Appeal 2024. Thailand is also committed to the multi-year pledge for voluntary contributions to UNRWA for the years 2022-2026, totaling 200,000 USD.
Thailand has been closely monitoring the situation in the Gaza Strip with deep concern, particularly the impact on innocent civilians and humanitarian personnel. Thailand’s special contribution today aims to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. Additionally, His Excellency the Ambassador of Thailand commended UNRWA for its dedicated efforts in spearheading the humanitarian cause in the Gaza Strip and beyond.
